Dry Needling
Dogs, much like humans, can suffer from myofascial pain and develop myofascial trigger points. These trigger points may arise from factors such as improper posture, acute injuries, repetitive, overuse syndromes, or compensatory movements.
Dry needling is ‘an invasive technique used by physiotherapists to treat myofascial pain that uses dry needle, without medication or injection, which is inserted into areas of the muscle known as trigger points’.
- The American Physical Therapy Association
Dry needling can help improve muscle flexibility and mobility. It can also be used with a Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) device to help improve muscle activation and strength.
