physiotherapist dog

Hello :)

I am Joey, a physiotherapist and the founder of Nimble Paws Physiotherapy!

My Story

My interest in canine rehabilitation began with my two dachshunds. As a physiotherapist, I wanted to help my dogs if they ever got injured. During my coursework, I visited dog rehabilitation centers in Taiwan and Spain and was inspired by the standard of rehabilitation that pets in these countries have access to.

I aspire to bring a human physiotherapist’s perspective to dog rehabilitation in Singapore. Dogs, like humans, can and should have comprehensive rehabilitation programs, including strengthening, endurance, and balance exercises, along with manual therapy, to improve their mobility. I believe the biomechanics analysis, manual therapy and clinical reasoning skills I had picked up during my experience as a human physiotherapist will provide great depth towards rehabilitation for animals. I am committed to ensuring pets receive the best standard of rehabilitation to enhance their overall wellness and welfare because they deserve it!

Qualifications

2024 (Ongoing)

Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner

University of Tennessee

I am currently completing the Certified Canine Rehabilitation Practitioner (CCRP) course from the University of Tennessee and am certified in both human and canine Dry Needling, as well as the Mulligan with Movement manual therapy technique.

2017

Bachelor (Hons) in Physiotherapy

Trinity College Dublin

My past 8 years working as a human physiotherapist in Singapore in both the public and private sector has provided me with a wide array of manual therapy skills and shaped my clinical reasoning in treating orthopaedic, musculoskeletal and neurological conditions. I believe these skills can be effectively applied to canine rehabilitation.

Fun Facts About Me

In my free time, I practice pilates or head to the gym for weights training. I strongly advocate for physical activity and exercise! I also enjoy downtime with my two dachshunds, either walking or cuddling with them. I love to cook and bake, so feel free to share any recipes!

I am still practicing as a human physiotherapist, so feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
