PHYSIOTHERAPY SERVICE

Physical Modalities

Physiotherapy modalities are devices that physiotherapists use to aid with the rehabilitation of your pet. At Nimble Paws Physiotherapy, we firmly believe that these modalities should be used as an adjunct treatment to aid with rehabilitation - it should never be the treatment itself. Rehabilitation is more than this!

We use Laser therapy, Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy and Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation therapy at our clinic. Each machine has its own indications and contraindications of use, which will be advised during the physiotherapy session before use.

LASER THERAPY

Laser therapy is the application of light energy over the area of injury which promotes healing, decrease inflammation, improves blood circulation, reduces pain and improves immune cell response. It has been shown to help with healing of post-surgical wounds, reducing inflammation and recovery of muscles.

Our clinic and physiotherapist is certified by the National Environment Agency (NEA) to use a Class 3B Laser from BTL Solutions.

PULSED ELECTROMAGNETIC FIELD (PEMF) THERAPY

PEMF Therapy involves the use of a device which emits an electromagnetic field. This electromagnetic field is believed to influence bone repair at a cellular level, have an anti-inflammatory effect in joints affected by osteoarthritis and have a neuroprotective effect which will help with intervertebral disc disease.

NEUROMUSCULAR ELECTRICAL STIMULATION

NMES uses electrical impulses to mimic the central nervous system's action potential, effectively strengthening muscles, preserving strength, and preventing atrophy, particularly in pets who had neurological conditions like Intervertebral Disc Disease or Stroke. In our practice, we prefer electrical stimulation with dry needling over pads due to the interference of pet fur with electrical conduction.
